ChinaLuxCultureBiz (“CLCB”) was started in March 2009 with the purpose of compiling the latest news about current trends and crucial developments in China’s luxury, business, arts, and cultural markets.

Over the past decade, China has emerged as a global economic power. With a middle class now roughly equivalent to the entire U.S. population (and growing), China’s consumer market is among the world’s largest. But for Westerners looking to do business there — or to simply understand the contemporary culture — China can be confusing, contradictory, fast-paced, and contentious.

ChinaLuxCultureBiz looks at the intersection of business and culture in China: the ins and outs of business development there with an eye toward the upscale consumer market, as well as the business of culture — from museums and contemporary art to performance, public events, and more.

CLCB is for anyone looking to stay on top of business and culture in China today.

    Jonathan Tel is the author of the novel Freud’s Alphabet (2003) and the short story collection Arafat’s Elephant (2002). His stories have been published in The New Yorker, Granta, and Zoetrope. He has worked as a quantum physicist and an opera librettist. While in New York he writes about Beijing, and while in Beijing about New York.

  6. Your blog has possibilities. I’m glad to have discovered it. But the name “ChinaLuxCultureBiz” is geeky. You need to think of a savvy, memorable name. Please don’t take this as a negative. Practically all famous Hollywood stars have had their names changed.
